Flower Beds and You: Understanding the Importance of Regularly Scheduled Maintenance

Implementing flower beds and flower gardens into your commercial or residential property can be a beautiful thing. Not only do you get the pleasure of staring at a brilliantly constructed landscape every single day, you also get to implement a bright, beautiful tool for drawing in the eyes of potential visitors or customers (a vital cog in the machine of a successful, vibrant landscape, if you ask us.)

Not only will you have something beautiful to look at, you’ll also give yourself affordable, seasonally-rotational options that won’t break the bank and can keep your landscape looking vibrant and fresh.

But it’s not as simple as putting in a flower bed and calling it a day, though. Contrary to popular belief, flower beds require quite a bit of tender loving care, they’re not as simple as install them, love them, and leave them to grow. In fact, flower beds require quite a bit more regular maintenance than many people realize. You have to deal with all sorts of eyesores and (potentially) invasive pests, diseases, and more!

To learn a bit more about flower bed maintenance, how you can improve your flower beds’ appearance and health, and why Landcrafters ensures that we implement flower bed maintenance for all of our customers, read on!

What is Flower Bed Maintenance?

So, what does it really mean to have a properly cared for and well-maintained flower bed or landscape bed? At Landcrafters, pride ourselves in constant care for our customers flower beds — and trust us, that takes a lot of work. Flower bed maintenance is essentially the culmination of daily, small tasks that add up to keep your flower beds looking pristine, well-maintained, and of course, more beautiful than ever.

This work consists of several distinct tasks, including things like spade edging (by hand, usually), weeding, mulching, trimming the groundcover, pruning flowers and shrubs, as well as rotating, replanting, and recycling perennials (a topic we recently covered on our blog!)

Why Does This Type of Maintenance Matter?

That’s a lot of work (perhaps more than you recently considered), but Landcrafters is happy to do it! We prefer to keep our clients’ landscape beds and flower beds to a higher standard, meaning we classify this type of work as high priority — that means our maintenance is going to be top-notch and regular for flower beds.

This maintenance makes a huge difference for both commercial and residential properties. There are many reasons for this, but one of the biggest (and most focal for our clients, typically), is for the aesthetics of the landscape. High maintenance flower beds require more than just the seasonal mulching, they need extra attention on every landscaper’s visit. Beds should be consistently weeded to avoid scraggly looking flowers, and if the beds aren’t being spade edged by hand, you can expect a dull and overgrown flower bed. Trimming, pruning, and ensuring the shrubbery is being edged are going to play a huge role in your flower bed look as well. If you leave dead branches, leaves, twigs, flowers, and other flora and fauna in the flower beds, they’re going to look cluttered, wild, and unkempt.

But we don’t just do this for appearances, although, as we said above, flower beds definitely need a routine clean up to look their best. It’s got a lot to do with invasions from surrounding plants, threatening weeds, pest problems, and even flower thinning. Shrubs and flowers need to be pruned so that they can grow better and healthier – if not, it’s likely the dead excess will prevent self-growth and the inhibit the health and growth or surrounding plants. Additionally, if groundcover isn’t trimmed, you can certainly expect surrounding plants to invade the flower bed area.

At Landcrafters, we care about how your landscape looks – and not just for the week. We want our clients to be consistently and regularly happy with their landscape, season to season, month to month, and year to year – that’s why we aim to make flower bed maintenance a routine occurrence.

It’s one thing to implement a gorgeous flower bed area for our customers — it’s another entirely to happily implement more perennials, more shrubs, more petals, more mulch, and more features for your flower beds with the knowledge that we’ll be behind you every step of the way to care for your maintenance-needing beds.

Additionally, we care about the health and well-being of our customers’ flower beds, not just about the appearance, and we understand that weeding, mulching, trimming, edging, and other procedures for caring for flower beds are the go-to way to keep your beds healthy, happy, and ready for growth.
