The Spring Landscape Guide You’ve Been Dreaming Of

This is it, people—Florida winter is nearly over, the “cold” is subsiding, and the flowers, shrubs, and trees are about to be in total bloom. That’s right, spring is nearly here! For all those folks out there who tell you Florida doesn’t have real seasons, you’re about to have the evidence right in front of you that proves them wrong.

As landscapers who have been in the biz in Florida for over 20 years, we’re well-acquainted with Florida’s beautiful Spring season—and what’s more, we know exactly what needs to be done once Springtime rolls around to ensure you’re guaranteed a beautiful lawn and landscape the rest of the year!

If you’re new to the whole landscape thing, we’ll let you in on a little secret—Spring is one of the best times to make improvements, clean up your landscape, and revamp your little slice of heaven in unique ways!

Why? Because the weather is more moderate, there are plenty spring showers to help with growth, and it’s an all-around wonderful time to be outdoors, enjoying the beauty of nature (which, if you’re tackling your landscape and lawn care on your own, you’ll definitely appreciate that element—trust us).

We’ve laid out a few spring-into-action tips you’ll need to ensure that your landscape is fully primed and optimized for the Spring season. Consider this little guide a checklist of actions to take to ensure that your landscape is Springtime ready! Need help with any of these services? We’re here to help with that, too!

Time to Test Your Soil

Spring is the perfect time to take a good look at the pH levels of your soil to ensure that your landscape is happy, healthy, and getting the adequate nutrients it needs! A soil test lets you know what type of nutrients you need to add, what your soil might be lacking, what it’s producing perfectly, and give you better insight into what you need to do to take your landscape to the next level.

We’re happy to help you tackle any soil test questions you might have and we can even help you with the actual soil test to ensure your landscape is getting the right nutrients it needs to thrive.

Fertilize the Lawn

Remember that soil test? That’s going to give you the best idea of what your lawn and landscape are missing. In a lot of cases, your lawn could truly benefit from fertilization (although, this will definitely be answered by that soil test). If your lawn or landscape does have specific nutrient needs, it’s important that you’re buying the right type of fertilizer to take care of those unique details. In other words, you definitely don’t want to just go to the store and pick up any-ol’-kind of fertilizer. It needs to be specific!

Don’t forget your trees and shrubs, too—they love a little fertilization! If you’re not sure where to start when it comes to fertilization, give this blog post a read—it’s full of helpful Springtime fertilization tips that are sure to point you in the right direction.

Tackle the Weeds

There’s no time like spring to tackle those bad-to-the-bone weeds! During the winter, weed growth can sometimes go dormant, so it’s likely you weren’t dealing with these bad boys in the colder months. But now that the temps are warming back up and the soil is fertile, you can expect a total blowout of weeds. Attack the problem early and start your weed control strategy! Need more weeding advice? Clean Up Those Flower Beds

Your flower beds have likely been neglected all winter—give them some much needed TLC by cleaning them up, tidying them, and clearing them of debris, weeds, and more. There are tons of tiny things you can do on the daily to improve your flower beds—this kind of regularly scheduled maintenance for your flower beds can make all the difference in your landscape!

Evaluate Your Irrigation System

Spring is one of the most important seasons for your irrigation system—especially when it comes to evaluating and assessing it after the long, chilly winter. No, we don’t deal with freezing temps and tons of ice and snow in Florida, but that doesn’t mean that a winter season can’t compromise your irrigation system!

An irrigation system that’s broken, leaking, or dated leads to inefficient water use, wasted money, and of course, unhealthy plants, lawns, and landscape. Not sure if your system is faulty?
